Red House

The other day was another field trip for class.  This time it was for History of Modern Design.  In the process of covering the Aesthetic Movement, the Great Exhibition, and the Arts and Crafts Movement we have talked about many influential artist, painters, furniture craftsman and reformists.  One in particular that we have talked about was William Morris.  His belief concerning design was that a product should be made with the heart and soul of the craftsman and that mass production did not make the best design standards.

 The back of the house.

It was really really sunny out, finally!

Red House was suppose to be the house of his dreams, that he was going to spend years living in.  We traveled about thirty minutes by train to Bexleyheath, just outside of London, to see the house.  Morris only ended up living there for a few years, he decided to sell the house and move closer to London and his business in order to provide him more time to work.  The house was beautiful, however, the gardens are even more beautiful.  They have been added to and changed since Morris owned the house, but the were non the less beautiful.

I don't typically enjoy taking photographs to flowers things like that, but I couldn't resist some of the plants that were in the gardens.
