My first fish and chips, I was extremely excited for this since we had been walking around Stonehenge and bath the day of. I had to try it while in London, but it was exactly what I expected, fried food. Nothing to exciting there.
A cappuccino and a pain au chocolat for breakfast. This is my current number one choice when it comes to buying breakfast out. I went the day after we went to Stonehenge and I was craving a nice leisurely breakfast including coffee, pastry, Sudoku, and a paper.
The food spread from a market on Brick Lane. This particular one was Mexican food, but I ended up choosing something else.
On one of my short excursions into the center of London one day I stopped at a small cafe for my first bangers and mash, another obligatory English meal. However, I have a feeling that it wasn't the standard bangers and mash.
One lamb and rosemary sausage and one pork, apple, and cider sausage over leek mash with red onion gravy and garden peas on the side. It was amazing, I should have taken a picture of my plate when I finished, not a drop of gravy or tiny bit of mash left.
Rhubarb crumble with hot custard. First of all, when I ordered this, I didn't know there was custard with it, let alone hot custard. Second, it was surprisingly good, and now that I know what it is I have been seeing this type of dish on many pub menus.
My dinner while in Oxford, it is a chicken and creamy cider pie with mashed potatoes and veggies. It was delicious and it played right into my new found love for cider.
So my thoughts, English food isn't to bad. They use cider to flavor a lot of their food, which I am 100% okay with. However, I will definitely love a big pot of gravy and meatballs when I get home, or maybe even crabs and spaghetti.
